Woodcock Johnson Testing ==> Virtual

Personal Testing Support—from Your Home

Many ATC families have enjoyed the convenience of Woodcock-Johnson testing through Zoom. Virtual testing is a live, one-on-one appointment with an examiner—not an assessment your child completes alone.

We prefer in-person testing when possible because it allows more direct observation of your child’s work and responses. However, limited virtual appointments provide another option for families across the country when remote testing is appropriate.

Currently Available: Woodcock-Johnson III

Our brief WJ III virtual appointment is intended primarily for families seeking annual homeschool testing who are comfortable with their current curriculum and understand their student’s learning needs.

You will receive a score report and access to a parent-friendly interpretation guide. This brief appointment does not include an extended results consultation or individualized curriculum planning. Additional consultation with Angie may be scheduled for a separate fee.

Please tell us your state and testing purpose before scheduling so we can discuss whether the available assessment fits your requirements.

Woodcock-Johnson V: Limited Introductory Appointments

We are beginning with a small number of families as we work through equipment setup and the virtual testing process. Trying the setup with different students and reviewing device compatibility will help us prepare for a smooth experience before offering appointments more widely.

I have successfully used a Samsung tablet during WJ V testing. However, that experience does not establish that every Samsung or Android device will perform the same way. Please contact us before purchasing equipment or scheduling with a non-iPad tablet.

Equipment for WJ V Virtual Testing

For ATC’s planned setup, your student will need:

  • A compatible touchscreen tablet for the assessment. Riverside recommends an iPad with a screen at least 10 inches, especially for timed tests.

  • A separate computer for the Zoom connection, allowing your child to see and communicate with the examiner while using the tablet.

  • Reliable internet that supports both devices.

  • A working camera and microphone, with Zoom installed and updated.

  • Access to a printer for examiner-provided response pages when required.

We will confirm your specific devices, camera placement, and setup instructions before the appointment. WJ III equipment instructions differ and will be provided when scheduling.

Is Virtual Testing a Good Fit?

Your student should be able to:

  • Communicate with the examiner and follow directions through a video call.

  • Work independently during testing without a parent explaining questions or helping with answers.

  • Remain in a quiet, private space with minimal distractions.

For our current brief WJ III option, students generally should read at approximately a third-grade level and perform basic addition and subtraction. High school students generally should be comfortable attempting basic algebra. These are ATC appointment guidelines; exceptions may be considered individually.

A parent or responsible adult should be available for technology assistance while allowing the student to answer independently.

Protecting Test Security

Families must agree that:

  • No recording, screenshots, photographs, or screen capture will be made during testing.

  • No test questions, images, response pages, or other protected materials will be copied or shared.

  • Printed materials will be handled and returned or disposed of as directed by the examiner.

  • Response pages will not be previewed or practiced before the examiner gives instructions.

Testing for a Specific Program?

Our brief annual-testing appointment is not designed as a comprehensive evaluation for gifted-program admission or other eligibility decisions. If a school, scholarship, or program needs results, confirm its required tests, administration format, and documentation before booking.

Questions or Ready to Schedule?

Contact your preferred ATC location to discuss suitability and availability. Please include your student’s age, state, reason for testing, and—if requesting WJ V—the tablet and computer you would use.
